Psilocybin Mushroom Strain Guide

Origin

One day, one man discovered and found new strain of psilocybin mushrooms in the wild jungle of Koh Samui Island in Thailand. The name of this legendary explorer is John W. Allen or “Mushroom John” who writes:

“It was the late 1990s. During one of my expeditions to Thailand, Cambodia, and Burma my colleague and I were going to Phang Ka beach. We were driving on Highway 4173 (which turns into 4170) near the southwest coastline of Koh Samui Island in Thailand.

There was also a road with giant elephant sculptures.

To the right of the road were two rice paddies where alone pink buffalo was grazing. The area was fenced with barbwire, and it was strange. Local Thai people don’t use barbwire. But foreign immigrants (often from Australia and Germany) do.

The owner of the two rice paddies and its buffalo was an Australian man and his Thai ex-wife. This land and house in Thailand (which is owned by a woman since a foreigner has no right to be an owner of land) was a place where I found the Pink Buffalo mushroom strain, sold on the internet came from.

For me it was enough to explore the tracks of this buffalo (manure traces) in the rice paddies. And boom! Magic… magic mushroom!

That’s how the mushroom strain was found and named. In honor of this lonely pink buffalo – Psilocybe cubensis Pink Buffalo. Of course, this strain has changed a bit since my wild specimen was subsequently domesticated. By the way, no buffalo are sacred in Thailand. Yes, cows are sacred in India, but buffaloes are not. There are about 70 million buffalo in Thailand and one out of ten is pink. They are not rare, special, or sacred. It is just believed in Thailand, if you see a pink buffalo, it is a sign for a good day.”

Appearance

The Pink Buffalo mushroom boasts a striking red-brown-gold cap, typically spanning 25-75 mm in diameter. As it matures, the cap lightens to a lighter amber hue, though still darker than that of the Golden Teacher variety. At full maturity, the cap can grow to a diameter of 5-8 cm. Its spores exhibit a purplish brown to dark brown coloration and are ellipsoid in shape, measuring approximately 11.5 – 17 x 8 – 11 µm. Known for its robustness, the Pink Buffalo features a thick, sturdy stem. In isolated cultures, these mushrooms can reach towering heights of 15-25 cm, with such giants often appearing during the final stages of fruiting in multi-spore environments. Typically, Pink Buffalo mushrooms grow in close-knit clusters, forming friendly families of 3-7 specimens. Originating from the warm subtropical climate of Thailand, this strain thrives in heat, requiring conditions reminiscent of its native habitat for optimal growth.

This strain is categorized within the Asian Psilocybe Cubensis lineage, renowned for its elevated psilocybin content compared to other commonly available magic mushrooms. The heightened concentration of psilocybin in this strain induces potent visual effects, synergizing harmoniously with the tranquil euphoria characteristic of a magic mushroom experience. It typically delivers the quintessential psychoactive effects associated with mushrooms, including euphoria, sensations of love and interconnectedness, introspective contemplation, philosophical musings, synesthesia, enhanced visual perception, and a reduced sense of ego. I was in Thailand at the time and was doing my own foraging. It was a couple years after Mushroom Jon had made his discovery. This wasn’t my first time with the Pink Buffalo, or Hairy Buffalo as they were sometimes called, and I had grown some spores already from an online vendor. I was attempting to rediscover some magic if you will and struck some gold.

I dried them out after taking a spore print and took them on a hike through the jungle. It was honestly a rather slow onset and was beginning to think I may have found a less potent mushrooms, however then things took a turn.

“Then it finally hit me. It felt like the world was speaking to me. What I experienced was mostly just audio hallucinations, nothing visual, however I did feel like I was in my own little pocket dimension with nature protecting me.

The world told me that I need to stop fighting it. I need to stop hiding and just live. We are all so small and insignificant, but we are also all in this together. Humans, nature, the plants the animals and all the beings in the universe.”
