Burma
Psilocybin Mushroom Strain Guide
Origin
The Burma strain originates from Southeast Asia, specifically Burma (now Myanmar), a country situated between Thailand and India. According to legend the strain is said to have been discovered by a Thai student, who found it growing in buffalo dung in a rice paddy just outside Yangon (formerly Rangoon).
The student later gave a sample of the mushroom to John W. Allen, a renowned ethnomycologist credited with discovering and introducing many Psilocybe mushroom species to the West in the late 1990s. Allen reportedly cultivated only a single flush of the Burma mushrooms, preserving and spreading the original spores, which later gained global recognition.
John Allen has also mentioned that many of the Burma strain spores, as well as numerous other strains now sold online, trace their origins back to his propagation efforts and discoveries throughout Southeast Asia.
Appearance
Burma mushrooms, a strain of Psilocybe cubensis, are easily recognizable by their distinct appearance, featuring long, slender white stems and small, golden caps. The stems are typically tall and thin, with a sturdy yet flexible structure. When handled, the white stems often bruise to a bluish hue, which is a telltale sign of psilocybin content. The caps are smaller compared to other Psilocybe cubensis strains, starting out rounded or slightly convex and flattening as they mature. Their color ranges from a light golden to a caramel tone, sometimes featuring a darker spot in the center. The surface of the cap is usually smooth and slightly shiny. Underneath, the gills are closely spaced and change from a light color to a purplish-brown as the spores mature. Like other cubensis varieties, Burma mushrooms release dark purplish-brown spores.
Expected Experience
The experience of taking Burma mushrooms is often described as euphoric and playful, making them a great choice for those seeking a lighter psychedelic journey. Though considered one of the milder magic mushroom strains, they still provide a potent trip when taken in doses of 2–3 grams of dried mushrooms. Psychonauts who choose Burma mushrooms are usually looking for a sensational, cosmic adventure without the intensity of more cerebral or philosophical trips.
Burma mushrooms are ideal for beginners or those who prefer a more manageable experience.
The effects are generally dreamy and uplifting, often accompanied by a sense of euphoria and lightness. Visuals are commonly present but are usually gentle and whimsical, enhancing the overall dream-like atmosphere of the journey. Rather than sparking deep introspection or profound revelations, these mushrooms tend to foster a joyful and carefree vibe, making the trip enjoyable without feeling too overwhelming. For these reasons, Burma mushrooms are often considered an excellent “starter” strain for those new to psychedelics or for users looking for a more playful, relaxed experience.
Dr. Delic’s Field Notes
Often, it’s life little moment’s that give me the greatest sense of comfort. I took Burma mushrooms with my significant other at the time with nothing really planned but having a relaxing time at home. Sometimes you don’t need a grand adventure.
“We went to lay on her sofa then held each other. And we loved. I don’t mean we made love, I mean, we held each other and felt intense, deep love for each other. Listened to some music and closed my eyes and saw beautiful color patterns in time with the music. The music rocked back and forth causing my mind to flow with it. Then her dog came lay on us and we loved him too. It was beautiful.”
