Albino Penis Envy
Psilocybin Mushroom Strain Guide
Origin
The Albino Penis Envy (APE) strain of psilocybe cubensis was developed by a mycologist known as “Workman” from Sporeworks, who set out to create a pure white version of the already potent Penis Envy strain. While he failed in creating a completely white mutant, APE is known for its distinctive white appearance with a pale, blue-tinged cap, resulting in a unique and visually striking mushroom. However, this strain is notorious for its growing challenges—it is prone to aborts (premature halting of growth), is not a prolific flusher, and typically produces lower yields compared to other strains.
Despite these cultivation difficulties, APE has earned a reputation as a “mutant” strain, with many users reporting that its potency far exceeds that of average psilocybe cubensis strains. Though there is little scientific evidence to support the claim that mutant strains are more potent, the unique appearance and novelty of APE may enhance the subjective experience, potentially leading users to perceive the effects as stronger. This placebo-like effect, combined with the actual potency of the strain, has solidified APE’s status as a favorite among experienced psychonauts.
Appearance
Albino Penis Envy (APE) mushrooms have a distinctive and striking appearance. They are known for their thick, bulbous stems and caps that are entirely white due to their albino genetics. The caps are usually smaller in proportion to the stems, and unlike typical psilocybe cubensis, the caps do not fully open and often remain underdeveloped. This gives them a somewhat stunted or “stubby” look.
The caps of APE mushrooms have a pale blue tint, especially as they mature or when bruised, signaling the presence of psilocybin. The stems are similarly thick and robust, maintaining the classic Penis Envy structure but with an all-white or pale cream color. APE mushrooms are prone to aborts, meaning that many mushrooms stop growing before full maturity, which can leave behind clusters of small, dense fruiting bodies.
Expected Experience
The experience of consuming Albino Penis Envy (APE) mushrooms is often described as intensely powerful and profound. Known for its high psilocybin content, APE provides an exceptionally potent psychedelic journey, often surpassing other psilocybe cubensis strains in both intensity and duration. Users frequently report vivid and immersive visual effects, including geometric patterns, enhanced colors, and distorted perceptions of time and space. These visual distortions are typically accompanied by a heightened sense of clarity, deep introspection, and spiritual insight.
Emotionally, the experience can be transformative, leading to a strong sense of euphoria, empathy, and connection to nature or the universe. Many users describe profound shifts in perspective, leading to personal or spiritual breakthroughs. Due to its potency, APE trips can also be mentally overwhelming for some, especially at higher doses, often requiring careful attention to set and setting to ensure a positive experience.
Physically, users may experience a strong body high, with sensations of warmth, tingling, or lightness. The overall trip typically lasts around 4 to 6 hours, with the peak effects occurring within the first 1 to 2 hours. Because of its intensity, APE is generally recommended for experienced psychonauts or those seeking a deep and meaningful psychedelic experience.
Dr. Delic’s Field Notes
Went for 4 days to the southern canyon lands of Utah. Found an isolated camping spot and spent the first evening setting up camp site 30 feet from cliff edge. Beautiful blond cliffs with red layers below me, blue soaring skies above. I choose to eat light on the first night.
I hiked the next day and set my intentions. The following day I ate the Albino Penis Envy.
“Then the electric rushes begin to zing through my body and inner ear. I am seeing color tracers and auric rimming. Breathing it all in deeply. At this point the journey takes off and I feel the connection between that-which-is-looking-out-from-within-me and the surround. I move carefully through the desert rock pinon -scape. The silver-dried elder trees reach upward in wild patterns.
Laying in the shade of a wide cedar, I feel the ground shudder and am letting go deeper and deeper into the Earth’s frequency. I ask for healing. I intend transcendence of ordinary. I listen deeply. The rock layers shimmer and vibrate. All seems as it really is -totally alive. I walk slowly on being as being.
Later I am laying in the tent, eyes closed, riding the energy washes. Just watching the land from the open door is deeply satisfying. I lose the thread of awareness-continuity here and find myself getting up to walk to find… something… something else. I keep looking to see the non-ordinary. Intending the miraculous.”
Then I am laughing at myself. The spaces I see, and feel are all familiar.
